Week 6 Reflection
While reading President Tanner’s talk, "Success is Gauged by Self-Mastery" I learned a lot of important skills for both life and business. This was my favorite reading for the week as I feel I gained the most from it. In this talk, the speaker shares some down-to-earth insights into why self-discipline, self-control, and self-mastery are so crucial for achieving success and living a good life. Even though this talk was given in 1975, I feel that its wisdom is just as relevant today.
The main idea is that success isn't just about what you achieve externally but about how well you can control and master yourself. It's all about living by moral standards and sticking to the right path in life, even when it's tough.
President Tanner begins by talking about how special it is to hold the priesthood in the Church and how important it is to live in a way that reflects its values. It also celebrates the Church's growth all around the world and the excitement and commitment of its members.
The core message of the article is about self-discipline and self-control. It references some well-known philosophers like Plato and da Vinci to show why it's crucial to conquer your own weaknesses. The article also emphasizes the need to stick to the Word of Wisdom, which means avoiding things like tobacco, tea, coffee, alcohol, and drugs. Even small slips in this area can lead to bigger problems.
The article encourages young men to get ready for missions and temple marriages by being disciplined and following the Church's teachings. Throughout the article, there are inspiring stories of people who have shown great self-control and commitment to their faith. These stories gave me motivation to continue to strive to do my very best. They helped to show that living a life of self-mastery and good values is the real path to success and happiness.
In a nutshell, this talk offers timeless advice for anyone looking to grow personally and live a good, righteous life. It reminds us that controlling ourselves and sticking to what's right is the way to true success and happiness.
